A Rauf

FRSPH, MSc., MA, DPH,

Chief Officer & Lead Research, Strategy & Innovation

Mr Rauf has qualified to Masters from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London and has a postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and a postgraduate award in “Managing People in Health Services” from the University of Warwick. Recently, he has completed his M.A. Religious Studies from the University of Chester.

He started out in the third sector organisations at a grass root level and later occupied key positions in the voluntary organisations. He has worked in research and evaluation projects for various Universities including De Montfort University, University of Warwick, University of Edinburgh, Sheffield Hallam University, and the University of Manchester. Due to his contributions in health promotion and public health, he was awarded the Fellowship of Royal Society of Public Health. He has a vast experience in managing and successfully delivering projects in the third sector in health, social care and wellbeing among minority ethnic communities.

His expertise is in developing innovative programs and adapting unique approaches in their delivery. He is a gifted “idea developer”.



Hanif Bobat, B.A.

Development & Volunteering

He is an experienced community development worker in health and social care for the past 20 years. His previous roles includes Policy Officer at Race and Health Forum. He was a Non-Exec director of Manchester PCT. He was advocacy worker for mental health service users group at AWAAZ Manchester. He is currently an executive member of BME Network and active participant in various citywide strategic events and forums. He represents EHF at GMCVO, MACC and other forums locally and nationally. He holds editorial board membership for Muslim Mental Health Journal.



Akhter Ali

Community Engagement & Outreach Officer

I am Akhter Ali, and has worked as a Journalist with the name Akhter Azabany. I am originally from Kurdistan, Iraq and I speak Kurdish (Sorani), Arabic and English languages. In the year 2000, I came to the UK and since then mostly I lived in the city of Manchester. Rusholme is my favourite place in Manchester because I spent my 13 years in this area.

I worked in different community organisations both as a volunteer and paid staff. Currently I am an outreach and advice worker at Ethnic Health Forum helping and supporting the minority ethnic communities in Manchester particularly among women from minority ethnic backgrounds.



Nang Mo Hom, MPH

Research Assistant, Research Capacity & Capability Programme (RCCP)

Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

Mo is a medical doctor from Myanmar/Burma who holds a Master of Public Health from BRAC Universtiy, Bangladesh. For the past 15 years, she has worked mainly as a public health professional in Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal. As a researcher, monitoring and evaluation officer, program manager and technical coordinator, Mo particularly focused on Reproductive Health, HIV/STI. Maternal and Child Health. Bringing in her vast experiences in managing qualitative research and public health programs for vulnerable populations and ethnic population living in remote areas of the countries. She is currently working as Research Assistant in our "Research Capacity and Capability Programme" and Officer responsible for "Pathway to Prosperity Plus project".



Jaweria Maqsood, B.A.

Lead Officer Happy Homes Project & Development Officer - Salford

Jaweria Maqsood covers a diverse range of roles, including being a passionate primary school teacher, a community project worker, a devoted mother to three wonderful children, and a loving caregiver for her parents. She did a degree in Childhood and Youth studies. Throughout her career, she actively engaged with various organisations, driven by a desire to make a positive impact on the community and dismantle barriers faced by individuals due to language, health inequalities and other similar limiting factors. At the core of her work lies a personal philosophy and deep passion for empowering women to become active citizens.

She strives to create a supportive environment where women can thrive. One quote that strongly resonates her is by Malcolm X: "To educate a man is to educate an individual, but to educate a woman is to educate a whole nation" According to Jaweria. "When I am not immersed in my professional pursuits, you will often find me curled up with a captivating book, exploring new destinations with my family, or enjoying quality time socialising with friends. I also cherish the comforts of home, making me a true "home bird".


Dr Atta Asif, PhD

Lead RCCP

Dr Atta primary area of research has had a focus on the statistical and analytical modelling of maternal and child healthcare and health inequalities in Low and middle-income countries (LMICs). He has conducted research on childhood malnutrition, childhood vaccination coverage, child’s dietary patterns and investigated their relationship with maternal education, empowerment and socio-economic indicators. Quantifying the socio-economic inequalities in maternal and child health and their contributory factors also remained the part of his research work. He is a Lead for our research programme.


Dr Mahadev, PhD

Dr. Mahadev, PhD, is a dedicated researcher with extensive expertise in genetics and molecular biology. With a rich academic background, Dr. Mahadev has taught a range of courses, fostering a deep understanding of complex scientific concepts. As a research consultant at the Ethnic Health Forum, he plays a pivotal role in driving impactful research initiatives. Dr. Mahadev is at the forefront of cutting-edge research at EHF, driving positive change in healthcare practices.


Habiba Burney, M.A.

Project Support Worker

Habiba has qualified in Development studies and she has a particular focus on issues related to social and economic development, and its relevance to communities. She possess good communication skills in English, Urdu and Punjabi.
